The red button next to “hide keypad” will hang up the call. Do not press it. Press ONLY the text that says “hide keypad”. Most people would consider “hide keypad” to be a label for the adjacent button, but apparently someone at Apple had a design convention in mind which may be intuitive to some but not others … including myself!

Is this the only Apple "Button" that doesn't look like a button? The current design creates cognitive dissonance and leads to much frustration (especially if you were on the phone going through a dozen automated steps before you finally get put in a queue to speak with a real person, which is the only time it ever happens to me). I've made this mistake at least 1/2 a dozen times , and I find myself cursing this design decision every time.
Please, just make it look like a button and not a label.
Hide keyboard function now kills my call every time. There is no red end call button visible. Have iPhone 12, latest IOS.
Hi fhalasz,
There wouldn't be a setting or reason for calls to do this when you press "hide keypad". If there's an issue with your touchscreen where it's registering you are pressing the "speaker" button, you may need to have your device repaired.
Cheers.
