HomePod setup keeps resulting in failure code (-12001)

New HomePod just delivered. Using iPhone 15 pro to setup for first time. Keeps getting failure code (-12001).

I reinstalled the HOME app and loaded latest iOS version on phone.

Hi RSAMM,

Congratulations on your new HomePod! Reinstalling the Home app and updating the iOS software on your iPhone were both excellent troubleshooting steps. As you're still unable to set up your HomePod, we have a few tips that may help:

  • Add the HomePod from the same account that you used to set up the Home app.
  • Enable or install the following on your iPhone before you set up your HomePod: Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, the Music app, two-factor authentication for your Apple account, and iCloud Keychain.
  • Confirm that Date & Time is set correctly, preferably set to Automatically.
  • If your Wi-Fi network uses dual SSID bands (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz), connect your iPhone to the 2.4Ghz band.

Hopefully confirming these settings will get you set up! If not, these troubleshooting steps can help resolve many HomePod setup issues.

  1. Restart your iPhone.
  2. Restart your network equipment (e.g. router, modem, etc.)
  3. Forget the Wi-Fi network on your iPhone and rejoin the network.
  4. Try setting up your HomePod in a different room in the Home app. (You can always move it to the room you prefer later.)
  5. Reset network setting son your iPhone. This step will remove any Wi-Fi and VPN settings, so make sure you have your passwords and the ability to reconnect before you take this final step.

Regards.
