Messages not being sent or delivered to one contact

I have a new iPad 9 and have one Android-user contact whose messages aren’t being delivered and to whom I cannot send messages. My contact’s messages come through to my iPad mini (iOS 15) and my iPhone just fine but not my new ios16 iPad.

Advice?

iPad mini, iOS 9

Hi Lcarrow,

If you eventually received the SMS messages from your friend on your iPad (9th gen), you likely have it set up correctly. Refreshing your connections can sometimes help reset the system. If you haven't yet, try these steps to see if it helps.

  • On your iPad (9th gen), navigate to Settings > Messages and ensure you have "MMS Messaging" and "Send as SMS" enabled.
  • On your iPhone, navigate to Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding and disable your iPad (9th gen).
  • Restart both devices.
  • Enable Text Message Forwarding for your iPad (9th gen) on your iPhone.

The "If you still need help" section at the bottom of If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support is helpful as well.

Regards.

Thank you…yes, text messaging is turned on and the same Apple ID was used for all 3 devices. I get texts from all Android-user friends and can text message them on all 3 devices - except this friend! I can send to her and receive texts from her on my phone and my iPad mini 4, but they don’t show up on my new iPad 9 and I can’t text her from the same device.

However, I just looked and suddenly the text conversation we had yesterday & today via my phone & iPad mini4 ate now showing up on my new iPad 9. I just tried texting her again on iPad 9 but it still won’t send…and it took hours for the conversation from yesterday and this morning to appear.

I’m at a loss.

That did it! Thank you! I’ve sent a message to the friend from whom I couldn’t send or receive messages, and it went through.

It’s still interesting to me that a) only one friend’s messages were affected, and b) they did eventually all show up. It shall remain one of life’s mysteries.

Many thanks…..
