2017 iMac 27" freezing, losing bluetooth since Ventura 13.6 update

Anyone else having issues since Ventura 13.6 update. My 2017 iMac 27" has had the following problems since the update: Bluetooth connection to mouse and keyboard constantly dropped; mail and safari pages freeze before opening and sometimes will not open at all; apps will not open, and entire system freezes and must be restarted. Have already done disk utility and repair and everything checks out. Reset pram and reloaded the Ventura OS. None of this has resolved the problems.

Thoughts? Experiences? And most of all, any solutions?

My Mac 27 -2017 has the same problems after updating 13.6.4, it turns out that this problem is not the firmware of the iMac itself, and a month has passed with Apple, this is not solved by any way of updating. what do they think about themselves?

Loses connection to bluetooth every 5 minutes, loses internet connection, safari freezes every 5 minutes. , all videos freeze for 15 seconds when viewed, then return. any action on imac immediately in the process of creation for 2-3 minutes. Often the entire system reboots itself. this is a problem with update 13.6.4

Yes, did pretty much same steps as you did, and yes problems continue (I'm also using 2017 Retina 27-inch w Intel Quad-Core). Finder either hangs or takes 15 minutes+ (by the clock) to function, FaceTime calls drop/fail, Safari fails, random files do not sync across devices, etc. My machine is effectively unusable. Sounds like the "next" release of hardware, the 24" M3, might not be til 2024, a 30" even later? Ugh.

I don't see any of the usual suspects but your Fusion drive may be failing:

Write speed: 429 MB/s

Read speed: 2432 MB/s

You're getting lots of crashes and that might be attributed to the failing fusion drive. Take it in to the nearest Apple Genius Bar for a free diagnostic check. If you do make sure you have a full and current backup of the Fusion drive as Apple will probably erase the drive and install a fresh system with no other data to verify it's hardware related and not software.

A cost effect method to increase boot, application and file opening speed is to get an external SSD and clone you boot drive to it via Carbon Copy Cloner. I have several cloned systems on external SDD to I can boot into older systems and run older software. I recommend drives from OWC (MacSales.com) as they have proven reliability, excellent customer support and warranties.  Consider one of these depending on your budget and needs:

OWC Envoy Pro FX Thunderbolt 3 + USB-C Portable NVMe SSD**

OWC Envoy Pro SX Rugged Portable NVMe SSD with Thunderbolt/USB4

OWC Envoy Pro Elektron USB-C portable NVMe SSD

Envoy Pro EX with USB-C or USB 3

For your particular model contact OWC's customer support and get their recommendation for the SSD model that would best suit your iMac model, work requirements and budget.  They have additional models other than those I've shown above.

AND, when you get a new iMac you can take the external with you for additional external storage or a backup kept up to date with Carbon Copy Cloner (as far as the user date is concerned).

Have you installed and run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus or VPN apps on your Mac?

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

Download and run Etrecheck. Be sure to give it Full Disk access before running.

Copy and paste the results into your reply. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC and recommended by Apple Support  to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.

Copy the report

and use the Additional Text button to paste the report in your reply.

Then we can evaluate the report to see if we can determine the cause of the problem.

Thank you. I tried this and while the problem was not recreated, everything ran slow. I restarted and had all of the same problems.

I then restarted in Diagnostics mode, ran the diagnostics and no problem was found. Had also checked Activity Monitor to see if there was a RAM issue, but all green and no extra pressure on the system.

I had already reinstalled Ventura which is what the Safe Mode instructions say to do if no other issues are identified. That has not worked either.

I am thinking that this older Intel iMac just doesn't play nice with Ventura 13.6. Hopefully there will be at least one more update before Apple discontinues the Intel updates.
