Missing Ripped CDs from my iPhonne

I have all my music collection on CDs and they have been ripped to MP3s and riside in a folder on my computer. I have synced all the albums to my iphone so that I have every song in my collection available on my iPhone.

Periodically, I will open an album from a favorite artist (all music that I own) and notice that half the songs are greyed out and unavailible for playback. This is infuriating. I don't want to constantly have to connect to my computer to sync and even if I do, those songs don't reappear after a sync to my computer.

It is so infuriating that I (a faithful apple product user for years) am at the point that I am considering buying an android device. I have searched the internet and have found thousands of people that have the same problem and yet, no one seems to know the answer or gives an intelligent response for why this is happening. Some give long answers that indicate something needs to be done on the computer when I never touch the computer after I get all my music files successfully loaded on my iphone. Why would I need to since all my music is on the iPhone. Yet, it dissapears.

Hi TNichols2594,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. We may need more information to offer the best assistance and articles for this issue. However, since you mentioned that you sync these songs, it sounds like you might have to check their status on your computer. The guidance in If songs are missing from your music library after you turn on Sync Library - Apple Support can help with that. For instance, the following section may help pinpoint what's happened.

"Is the missing song somewhere on your computer?

  1. Search your Mac or PC for the missing song.
  2. If you find the missing song, drag the song to the Apple Music app or iTunes.
  3. In the Apple Music app or iTunes, choose File > Library > Update Cloud Library."

If the same continues, how do you usually sync your songs to your iPhone? For instance, you might have connected to your computer physically or sync over Wi-Fi. Do you subscribe to iTunes Match or Apple Music? Lastly, are you able to play the same songs on your PC? You mentioned sometimes you see a message appear, can you tell us exactly what that says?

Take care.
