Please help with custom ringtones

i have iPhone SE 3rd gen running 17.0.3. I converted a 30 second song clip (not from apple) and converted to m4r but when I drag and drop into the iTunes sidebar ‘tones’ it doesn’t work. I can’t find the folder for tones in iTunes Media either. I’m using a PC. Can anyone help please ? Thanks

Trouble adding an m4r file under "Tones" in iTunes (using a Windows Computer) Hi. I want to add a custom ringtone to my phone by adding it manually to Tones in iTunes while my phone is connected to the computer. I've followed the typical procedure for this method in that I converted some MP3 files into AAC files. Then, I copied them into my file explorer and converted them from M4A files to M4R files. Next, I connected my iPhone to the computer to sync with iTunes. But in dragging the M4R files into Tones (under my device) nothing really happens. You see an "uploading files" action happening above, but no file actually appears here. It doesn't appear in "Ringtones" on my phone either. It does the same thing when I copy-paste via keyboard shortcut (Ctrl C/V) and when manually pasting it in via the Edit tab. Really weird it's not working because I had no problem with this years ago on an iPhone 4S. Appreciate any advice you may have here. Other stuff: I know about the GarageBand method, but it clips the audio I have when putting it in; I'd like to have the full audio clip (39s). If anyone knows a way to do that, let me know. The ones I'm uploading above are ~20s each. From what I've done before and see on online guides, the max time allowable is 40s — not sure if this changed or not. But if it worked before for me, I don't see why that time allotment won't last now.

Syncing tones using Apple Devices app on Windows 11 Apologies if this is not in quite the right place, but since there doesn't seem to be a category for the Devices app on Windows, I figured iTunes would be the closest one. Previously, I have used iTunes to add custom ringtones to my iPhone. For example, by recording my own as an M4A file, changing the extension to M4R, and then dragging that file onto my iPhone in iTunes to add it. I have tried this same procedure on the Devices app in Windows 11, but it does not seem to work. It adds the tone(s) to the Tones tab under my iPhone in the app, but they do not show up in Settings on my iPhone (even after syncing). The normal syncs work normally, in that I can add and remove music just fine. It's only the tones that seem to not want to sync. I can still see and use tones I have added in the past, before I started using the new app, as long as I don't delete them. Is this functionality not yet fully working in the new Devices app? Or has Apple decided to drop support for this for some reason?

How to add custom ringtones post-iTunes era? I always used custom ringtones that I made myself, and then I would make it an AAC file which would save .m4a, then I would rename it to .m4r and I would drag it into the Tones section of my "iPhone" device in iTunes. After Apple Music replaced iTunes and you now sync music and files with the Finder I do not see the same option in the Finder under my "iPhone" device. When I try to drag the .m4r file it seems the entire iPhone device pane in the Finder is drop point and when I drop it there it says "This file could not be added," and it doesn't give a reason. I have seen other threads on the subject and the advice seems to ignore the distinction that we're not using iTunes anymore, or that we are not using a custom app or something. I don't know. I used to be able to drag CUSTOM ringtones MANUALLY files I CREATED that are AAC audio files with the extension .m4r and I would drag it into tones and it would work. I am asking laser-focused specific question with no desire to do anything else. I don't want to buy ringtones from the iTunes Store. I want to know how to do it manually as I did before. If that is not possible I want to know a way to add custom ringtones as I did before through some other method that is now the way to do it. I am not interested in some spammy app.. This is the other thing I found when I search for an answer (not on Apple Communities) is some spam article that is shilling for some 3rd party app saying to download this app blah blah blah. I don't want to download any 3rd party apps. HOWEVER if this is the only way to do it, and it's legitimate and doesn't have any drawbacks like spamming the heck out of you or installing malware on your computer I am open to it.

Thank you for replying. I’ve read that but it’s not very helpful for me because I’ve done everything it suggests except the bit about using iTunes as an administrator and the stuff it says about that is beyond my capability on the computer!
