Managing iCloud storage

If you delete, in iCloud, a backup of and old device you are not using ie a phone. Will it also delete from your iCloud all the photos that were taken on that phone?

I need to clean up my iCloud space but do not want to lose any photos

iPhone XR, iOS 16

iCloud Backup and iCloud Photos are two different things.

If you log into www.icloud.com using an internet browser and go to the Photos app there, any photos that you can view there are iCloud Photos.

When iCloud Photos isn't turned on in a device, then the photos may be included in an iCloud Backup. You cannot view the contents of a Backup.

If you delete an iCloud Backup, that will not delete any iCloud Photos.
