Insert active link in Pages Doc (Mac)

I have been trying to insert an active link into a Pages doc but it remains greyed out. I have googled the problem and followed the instructions but the link insert still remains greyed out. Looked up Apple Support but they want me to pay for advice (Cancel anytime - but I have experience in attempting to cancel these types of subscriptions and it's never straightforward.) I have a bibliography document that will be viewed by subscribers to my channel and contains all the sources of my video talk. It would be much easier for them to click on an active link to view a source than to cut and paste it into a browser to go to the required website.

Please help

Pages has no designed knowledge of web content which eliminates copy/paste of active links into it. Microsoft Word and Apple's TextEdit do because they are designed to accept and export web content.

One can paste a link into a Rich Text TextEdit document and subsequently copy/paste that link into Pages as a non-active link with a blue border around it. One would have to click that link and choose Open Link to get to a web page.

Alternatively, one types some text, and selects it. Then right-click to Add Link and then copy/paste the web address into that Link editor and press return. One exits the Link Editor by clicking elsewhere on the document. Now export that Pages document as PDF so that the link is one-click active.

I say PDF because only Pages, and sometimes a specific version of it can open a Pages document, but almost everyone has a browser that can open and display a PDF and access links within it.
