I've not seen any pro app show up in the Update page in many years. Go to the Final Cut Pro X page in the App Store, the button THERE will be labeled "update". Do it from there. It's an App Store bug that's never been fixed.

What doesn’t work? What exactly happens when you go to the Purchased page and find the application? What do you see there?
If you have the application installed you can move it to the trash and download from your Purchased page, not the Final Cut Pro page.
Doesn't work for Big Sur either. And folks keep saying that the App Store will respond with an appropriate version of Final Cut Pro x for an earlier version of Mac OS, under a user's App Store Account listing of purchased software.
Like Tom, I'd like to know what does not work.
It does not work if one simply searches for Final Cut Pro in the store.
It does work if one does as I described above. But that assumes one has already purchased FCP.
As we have written in this forum many times, it is not possible to buy an older version of FCP, but if one has already bought, it has always been possible to get an older version on an older system.
This has worked now for many years. I have done it in Yosemite, and I have done in other versions.
I will try later today when I get a chance to use my wife's Big Sur mac, to make sure that it is still correct, and will report back either way.
@ephesiansguy, what did you learn from support? I'm on Monterey (12.5.1), have purchased FCP, and find no way to update. It doesn't show on the Updates page, and when I try the technique of Luis Sequeira1, I find an "open" button, not an "upgrade" button.
Solved my problem. Opened ticket through Apple Support app on my phone (first time to use it, very slick and efficient). After 1 hour connected with support person thru Messages on the iPhone. They set up a time for a call back from a FCP specialist within the hour. Call back was on schedule. Agent triggered a pop-up for me to accept screen sharing. Agent directed me to open App Store and other windows to deduce the problem. He showed me how to find the requirements of the latest version of FCP by going to the FCP page in the App Store, and clicking on the "more" link below the screenshot panel. This showed Sonoma was required. Agent advised me to do a backup and then upgrade to Sonoma. Upgrade had no problems, and as predicted, the Update button then appeared on the FCP page in the App Store. Note that it did not appear on the Purchased Apps section of my App Store account. The upgrade worked. I also upgraded Compressor. My starting point was Monterey, and I'm on an M1 Pro laptop of 2021.
Mine isn't working either. When I click "update" in the App Store, it keeps looping the "log in" pup-up. I enter my valid credentials, but it keeps looping and I cannot "enter" my Apple ID. This happened for another product as well--it's as if my Apple ID is not connecting to the App Store, so I am unable to update or download ANYTHING recently...I tried reaching out to Apple a couple of months ago and they simply told me to reset my password. I did and had the same issue. I have a support ticket set for Friday, but I am fearful it will be the same story.
You need to go to the App Store, click on your account at the bottom left, locate Final Cut Pro on your list of purchases and click the Update button.
What in that process is not working, and how?
What OS and version of Final Cut Pro are you using?
When you said you were on Monterey I thought that was as far as your system would go. I guess you skipped Ventura completely.
yes, bit the bullet and skipped Ventura. I did both a Time Machine and and Carbon Copy Cloner backup first (onto two separate external USB disks).
