iPhone Apple TV Remote app loading delay

This started happening after installing iOS 17....

When launching the Apple TV Remote app on the iPhone, the remote app lags for about 3 seconds before connecting to my Apple TV, and allowing me to tap the buttons. This makes it annoying when I need to quickly pause or adjust the volume. Previously, it would be connected to my TV almost immediately. But now, it says Choose TV, then eventually finds my TV.

This may be related, but I also noticed that the Remote app no longer works on cellular connection.

Just to give more context… it’s almost as if it forgets my network every time I close then open the Remote app. Each time it says “Choose TV” for 3 seconds until it finally finds my Apple TV then connects to it. I could understand if it did this if I had multiple Apple TVs, but I just have one.

I noticed this same problem as soon as I upgraded my iphone and AppleTV devices from iOS 16 to 17. It's very annoying and a degradation of a previously much more snappy interface.

Thanks I looked at the link, but it was not helpful since my Remote App is already paired to my Apple TV. I also tried to unpair it, and pair it again, but that did not help.

I am not sure why it is lagging. Even though 3 seconds seems fast, it’s actually much slower than it used to be before.

is there anything else I can try?

In this case, you can also try the guidance from If your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote isn't working - Apple Support which can help with most Apple TV remote issues. Start with the first section below, then proceed with the steps for your remote if needed.

"Try these steps first

Stay within 20 feet (about 6 meters) of your Apple TV and move anything that blocks the path between your remote and the front of your Apple TV, television, receiver, and sound bar.
Charge your remote for 30 minutes using a USB-C to USB or Lightning to USB cable and a USB wall charger.
Unplug your Apple TV from the wall power outlet. Wait at least six seconds, then plug it back in.

If the volume buttons on your Apple TV remote stop working, learn what to do."

Regarding the three seconds it takes for your iPhone to connect to your Apple TV instead of 'almost immediately' as you described, this is a bit harder to troubleshoot as this seems fairly quick. That being said, we recommend following the steps under the section 'If you can't set up the Apple TV Remote' in the above article.
