Searched Emails don’t load

When I do a general search of my iPhone or iPad emails (all accounts) the list of emails meeting my search criteria show up in the list on the left side of the screen. However, when I select one of the emails, it doesn’t load - just a white screen, no matter how long I wait for it to load. It occurs with wifi or cellular. This has occurred since updating to IOS 17. I have turned both off and restarted.

I did all of those things before posting the question. I did solve the problem myself. Before IOS17 you could just touch the message in the search results. Now you have to touch and hold - then a dialogue box appears to open the message. This is a stupid change IMHO as it requires additional actions. I will leave the post here so that others will benefit from the solution.
