Unlocking disk restart loop

I recently went to boot up my MacBook Pro (2020 model, intel i5 chip) only to be tossed into recovery mode upon boot up.

I have been talking to Apple support for the past 3 days regarding different techniques to find out what happened.

I’ve ran first aid on my “Macintosh HD” disk which returned successful.

I re-installed MacOS Ventura.

However whenever I go startup the disk and restart the device, I get a quick restart and a pop up occurs asking for a password to unlock the disk “Macintosh HD”. I enter the password, the machine restarts, and the pop up occurs again. I’ve tried the loop a handful of times to see if anything changes but nothing happens.

I am unable to exit out of recovery mode, every time I do I get hit with the loop (described above)

I am able to exit out of the pop up and return to the standard recovery assistant page with the 4 options (time machine, réinstallation, safari, disk utilities).

Ive already have been having to use an external monitor as the monitor to my MacBook cracked the other weekend, and unfortunately I am at my wits end. I am open to any suggestions or questions.

Hi RoninOfTheRed,

If your Mac isn't starting up as expected, please check out this link, which has some suggestions that can help correct some startup issues: If your Mac doesn’t start up as expected

If your Mac doesn’t start up as expected

If your Intel-based Mac computer displays a blank or blue startup screen, or a question mark on the startup screen, there may be a problem with firmware updates, startup items, or software.

Tip: If an Apple Support URL is shown on the startup screen, you can enter the URL on another device to access information about the issue and suggestions to resolve it.

Just to confirm, do any errors or messages appear when attempting macOS Recovery, or unlocking the disk? If so, what does the exact error say? That information will help us plan how to proceed.

Thanks!
