I had a balance in my Apple ID account from gift cards for personal use for books, movies, music, etc. but it’s being eaten away by monthly subscriptions. I want to make PayPal or a credit card the primary payer for those charges, saving my gift money.
How can I save this gift balance?

You can't without moving them to another account; in future, don't redeem the cards until you're about to buy the content.

that would be fine if the gift card could be added to the Apple ID balance piecemeal, but if you redeem a $50 Apple Card, you have to add all of it to your account.
Is there a way to make my Apple ID balance as a secondary payer in my Apple account?
