Cutout Photos - Background White vs Black

Can not figure out why some cutout photos save with the white background and others save with the black background?

Only the ones with the black background. (when opened in the photos app are actually cut out.)

Here are some pics. I chose 4 random pics and cut out the image and using the share menu I saved them. When opened in the photos app two have a white background and two have the black background.

When used in any other apps, messages, mail, photoshop, etc., only the ones with the black background are actually cut out. See overlayed pictures.

Anyone know why it does this with some photos and not others?

Thank you for the reply but we do know how to cut them out. That was not the actual question. The question was why when cut out and saved, some save with the “white” background. So even though the original background was removed, if you use it in another app it still has a “white” background.

Others when cut out and saved have a “black” background. When you use those in other apps, there is no background at all. See the blue picture for the four cutouts overlayed onto the blue background.

Hi jsuvman,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! As noted in the following article below the white outline may be expected:

Create and share photo cutouts on your iPhone

1. Open a photo in the Photos app or in apps like Messages or Safari.
2. Touch and hold the subject of the photo. A shiny white outline might appear.
3. Let go to reveal options like Copy and Share in the Photos app or Copy Subject in Safari.

Hope this helps!

Have a great day.
