Modifications aren't in sync

Since upgrading to Sonoma I'm constantly getting 'Modifications aren't in sync' errors with Pages files stored in iCloud. They appear to be on the same file with identical modified time stamp. But one file has .pages file extension and one doesn't.

I have tried restarts and logging out of iCloud and logging back in to refresh files. Is anyone else having this issue or a way to stop it?

This is happening to me too. Definitely since Sonoma update.

The dialog displays the same 2 files with the same details - so it's pot luck to select the correct one.

I now find myself losing work which has never happened in my 10-year history of using iWorks apps.

Hello Squidder,

Thanks for choosing the Apple Support Communities. We see your files are coming up with different versions since updating.

To start, have you tried choosing the most up to date file on these and see if these prompts stop?

Hi Justin,

Thanks for the reply. Yes I've tried that and the prompt keeps common back. A couple of times it gave me four files to choose from. I have also tried creating new files from scratch and duplicating files, with the same result.

I think there is something going on with file names. I have just tried copying all the files off iCloud to an external drive, deleting from iCloud and copying back.

In Finder I now have some files that show the 'dot pages' file extension and some that do not. When I open the ones that do have the extension the extension disappears. But I'm not getting the sync message anymore.

Many thanks.

I have a similar problem. I'm update one file, on my computer. If I switch apps to get more info and come back, I get that message about versions being out of sync. They both have the same date, and neither has an extension. If I choose the second one, my latest update disappears from the file I'm updating, so I choose the first one. It's a maddening distraction from my work. It happens in Numbers as well as Pages.
