How to get a notification to charge Apple Watch? Especially a custom percentage, 40% or 20%

I have just bought my first Apple Watch, which is the Ultra 2, watchOS 10.0.2.

How do I get my it to remind me to charge it?

  1. There seems to be no native Settings option.
  2. There seems to be no way to get Shortcuts automation to pick up the battery percentage.

If it's not added for battery reasons or reliability reasons, at least give the option to accept the risks and run it anyway (e.g. "note - shortcut may not run if watch is not connected to the iPhone", etc.)

I've seen other threads on Apple Discussions asking the same question for many years now, it's a pity that Apple is giving no attention to it for so long.

P.S. More context:

I sit next to a desk where charging is available 24/7, so I save the environment by extending battery life by not using the extreme battery ranges:

  • 40% and my iPhone runs a Shortcut "Beep boop - charge your iPhone!"
  • 80% and my iPhone runs a Shortcut "beep boop - charging complete!"

I was constantly forgetting to charge my watch and wanted the same thing, but no way to set up an alert at a higher remaining level. I use the custom watch face and put battery level as one of the icons so I can easily see what level the battery is at. That reminds me to charge it when it gets low while I’m still sitting at my desk.

That's exactly what I ended up using too since asking this question

If you use your watch to sleep, and are wearing your watch one hour before your sleep schedule begins, your watch will notify you to charge it before going to bed. Go to the watch app icon on your iPhone, and go into notifications. Turn that notification on. More, a 30% notification is fixed. That is the minimum threshold that your watch needs to monitor your sleep schedule.

Yes, sorry for giving your the incorrect prompts. Open watch application on iPhone, and scroll down to sleep. Then turn on charging reminders in Sleep. Then you'll receive a reminder every day. The reminder will emerge one hour before your scheduled sleep time, and you must be wearing your watch. Alternatively, as far as I know, there is no option for choosing percentage reminders. The paraphrased reminder to charge your watch, one hour before you sleep, says the same thing every day. Charge up to 30% for before your bedtime.

  1. Open "Watch" app on my iPhone
  2. Click on "My Watch" tab, bottom left
  3. Click "Notifications"
  4. The only available options:
    1. Notifications Indicator
    2. Show summary when locked
    3. Tap to show full notification
    4. Show notifications on wrist down
    5. <a long list of applications>
    6. Mirror iPhone alerts from: <a long list of applications>

There is no option for the 30% battery notification, could you elaborate more?

As there is no technical reason for notional custom charge levels, Apple have not provided the facility. These mythical levels will not improve battery life. Optimised charging is turned on by default (Settings, Battery, Battery Health)

Charge it fully at the same time every day, preferably overnight unless you use sleep tracking, and if you get the low battery warning try to charge it or turn on low power mode
