Lose photo/video editing downloading from iCloud.com to PC

I love photo and video editing tools on my iphone 12. In the past, I always edit photos and videos on my phone, sync with iCloud, edited versions are then downloaded to my PC for storage.

However, I noticed lately that by default only the originals are downloaded to PC. I double checked my iphone which has "Optimize iPhone Storage" on. In iCloud.com, it displays all items in edited versions. But all edits are lost from iCloud to PC. Not able to download edits created difficulties in my case since a lot of videos have been edited shorter.

At iCloud.com, I found new features showing download options, I tried the middle option "Including Edits" + "highest resolution", had hoped this would deliver edited version without compressing. But instead it delivered the same copy as downloading the original, no edits are included. The first two options in the attached picture does the same thing. Not sure if this is a software bug. However if I select the bottom option "Most Compatible", I received a small compressed file.

I searched but didn't find similar discussion online. Has anyone run into this? Any solutions/work around? I am going on a trip soon, hope to find a way to save my recent editing.

Thank you all in advance for your input!

I'm experiencing this as well. There's one very crude solution. If you download individual photos and select "Most Compatible" it does work. Any batch downloads automatically default at downloading the original files no matter what settings are selected. It seems any download as a zip file fails to give the proper files. The only functioning option is Most Compatible and only if it's one photo.

It is my understanding, the middle option “includes edits” + “highest resolution “ is supposed to provide edited version, but it didn’t turn out the case. For comparison purpose, I edited a video to its before downloading length (shorter than the original 128M), at 86M, the compatible version size is only 28M. Going compatible, the file resolution is significantly reduced 🥲

Using iPhone 15 Pro Max. Doesn't download edits at all. When icloud told me it was "updated" when i logged in a couple weeks ago I def wasn't expecting this. No edits. Used to download as Jpeg as well. Now it is HEIC with no edits no matter what you select. Truly embarrassing for a company like Apple to have such unforced errors like this.

It ONLY works if you do one photo at a time.....
