My iPhone was stolen

My iphone was stolen and is a company that buys and sells phones. In order to locate and send me my phone they want the imei number. My phone is locked so I don't know how that will help them. Is it safe to give the imei number?

That doesn't make sense. You say the company you're referring to buys and sells phones, which can only mean you sent it to them for a price offer. That's not the same as stolen.

And, if they have the phone in hand, it would be presumed you gave them your 6 digit passcode so they can test its functionality. In other words, they can get the IMEI themselves.
