Split Channel so it has Blank Space

What I'm trying to say is how would one take one channel, and in the Layer Editor split it so that it reaches higher notes and lower notes, but not middle notes.

For example, say that you wanted to play a piano from C-2 to C2, have a synth fill up D2 to A2, and then piano for the rest of the keyboard (B2 and onward). Is there a way to split the piano without making two separate channels?

Seriously. No amount of "Layering in Mainstage 3" videos has led me to the answer. Please help!

I've dealt with this a lot. You'll have to create two separate channels for the different ranges you need. Not a huge deal, it's just that there will be two instances of the plug-in instead of just one, which is not as efficient as you and I would like I'm sure.
