Hey, i’ve noticed that a lof of people have problems connecting their airpods to iphone, since the new ios17 update came out. I was wandering if anyone has the same problem as me. In my case, everything (the sound and touch “command”) works perfectly, just my right microphone stopped working. I’ve tried to connect to my friends iphone, who still has ios 16 and is working normally, without issues. Can anyone relate?

This proves the issue is with iOS 17. Please update to iOS 17.0.3. If it's still occurring, please reset them: How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support

I've had a similar issue for at least a couple of months. My AirPods earpieces would activate, so I could hear things, but the microphone wouldn't activate. The phone mouthpiece microphone remained active. So unless I held the phone to my mouth, the sound level was low when I called people.
I finally got some relief today. It came down to the left/right/automatic setting described on this page. Specifically, when I switched away from Automatic to the Left or Right setting, the AirPods microphone started working again. When I switched back to Automatic, the microphone continued to work.
Not sure if that's your issue, but this seemed like a reasonable thread to mention my experience. Hopefully it'll spare some people the immense frustration I've felt with this issue.
