How long does it take to delete Mail Account on iPhone 8?

Can’t open, delete, trash emails on iPhone 8. Trying to delete Mail Account to fix issue per recommendation of Apple Store. I tried to delete Mail Account and at the end of 4 hours phone was still swirling, so I shutdown phone. Should “Mail” be turned to off position and then “Delete Account” tapped?

How are you trying to delete the email account? Are you going to Settings>Mail>Accounts, tapping on the account and then tapping Delete Account?
