Why does my new iPhone 14 Pro show an expired warranty on activation?

OK, so you bought a 3rd party refurbished phone with no warranty. I would return it. Apple-refurbished phones do not have a serial number that starts with a digit.

And Apple phones, even refurbished, DO have a 1 year warranty.

Where can I find evidence of this? I contacted Apple's official support, but they couldn't provide me with any official information. I also bought an iPhone 14 Pro Max whose model number starts at 5, not at M. The seller claims that the iPhone is new, not refurbished. But I feel that something is wrong.

The unit has been refurbished by an Apple authorized facility, but not by Apple themselves.

It is not a new phone, it was repackaged in a “new” box. And it’s likely that the model number on the box does not match the model or serial number on the phone.

You are wrong! A model number that starts with 5 means it is a refurbished phone. There is a huge difference between a refurbished phone and a demo phone. One being that a demo phone will not work fine.

If the warranty expiration date is some time in 1978 - nearly 30 years before the release of the first iPhone - it may be set to that as an indication that this phone never had any warranty coverage.

Which I am guessing might be the case with a demo phone.
