Moving photos and files to save device storage

The dilema here is photos are a commodity we Al love to have an are part of our daily lives, the previous question was how we move pictures to the I cloud permanently and we can then free up device space, and for what it’s worth there is no solution other than purchasing a drive and moving them there , which defeats the purpose of even subscribing to iCloud if we have to take this measure! If that’s the solution or answer then please just say so and not be round about, I’m really a fan of this whole process of the usefulness of apple products but as of lately it is trivial to find solutions to things I had before in previous appliance that I had before. Please find solutions not excuses. I know my comments are useless because they will not bring any fixes, and it’s business as usual!

iCloud is a synchronization service, not offline storage. Anything in iCloud syncs to your devices to keep them in sync. You can elect to optimize the photos on device to free space (settings > photos). Or, you can download photos to your computer and remove them from your device. Or, you can purchase additional space in iCloud or a larger device on which to store them. Or, you can seek offline storage options.
