Unzip (uncompress) a tar.gz file on a Mac:
Hi,
1) Move your xxxx.tar.gz(xxxx is your file name) file to your download folder.
2) Open Terminal.app, then type "cd ~/download".
3) Type "tar -zxvf xxxx.tar.gz"

Unzip (uncompress) a tar.gz file on a Mac:
It might be the file itself that is corrupt. So create a new user, or try a different Mac.

If you want to unpack the .tar.gz file into a .tar file before running tar, use gunzip.
