Apple Watch Ultra 2, Watch OS 10.0.2, iPhone 15Pro with 17.0.2 - compass does not show coordinates, no waypoints possible

I have the new iPhone 15 Pro and the new Apple Watch Ultra 2. On the watch is Watch OS 10.0.2 (I installed the newest update today), on the iPhone IOS 17.0.2 - the watch is coupled to the iPhone and everything on the watch works fine except the compass on the watch. It does not show coordinates within the compass and it is not possible to create a waypoint on the watch.

The compass app on the iPhone works well. I can use the Apple Maps app on the watch - it works fine.

Within the privacy settings and the location services everything needed is allowed when using the apps.

I already recoupled the watch to the iPhone several times an on the iPhone I already have resetted the location and privacy settings.

Does anybody know that issue ? Thanks for help! Greetings from Germany.

I have the same issue as you. Same watch and iPhone as well.

Seems like the GPS is working on the watch as I have a different app which uses GPS and shows its working but just does not show the coordinates on the Compass app and any watch faces. Also does not allow you to add waypoints.

I took it into the Apple store and after testing everything they said there was a fault with the watch and will replace. Just waiting for a replacement which is about 4 weeks away.

The strange thing is the same is now happening with my series 5 watch as well.

Been through all the settings and everything is as it should be. I feel its a software issues but not everyone is having the same issue.

Also checked out the same watch in a local store and was working fine.

Hi Brod2022,

thanks for your answer! So perhaps the best way to get a solution for that issue is in two steps:

at first try one of the older Wayfinder watch faces (if there is a bug in the very new Ultra watch face)
and if it does not work then make an additionally reset of privacy data and location data. Then make a restart from the watch and afterwards it should be work 😊

thanks for answer!

in the meanwhile I got the solution, saw it in another threat here.

On iPhone I did reset the privacy and location data. Afterwards I restarted the Apple Watch, took one of the older Wayfinder watch faces, previously I always used the very new Ultra watch face - and then everything works fine.

so at the end I don’t know exactly what it was. Perhaps the problem was caused on the very new Ultra watch face or it was cost from the combination with the very new Ultra watch face and the data reset.

so what, now it works and I’m happy 😀

Same issue. I think you are right. Once I used a different watch face, the compass app requested permission to use location. Then it started working from the new face.
