I bought a replacement AirPod and when I tried to connect them it didn't work and said the AirPods were mismatched

I bought the AirPod for 90 bucks at an official Apple Store and the worker there said I had to connect them in a very specific way and so I did but when I tried to get them both together it couldn't pair and said the AirPods were mismatched and didn't belong to me which is weird considering I spent 100 and a singular airpod I then continue to go to store where they were no help.

iPhone 13 Pro Max, iOS 16

Troubleshooting AirPods Mismatch:

A. Start here: If you see an alert that says "AirPods Mismatch" - Apple Support

B. Verifying Genuine AirPods:

  1. Get the Serial Number: Find the Serial Number of your AirPods - Apple Support
  2. Enter the Serial Number here: Check Your Service and Support Coverage - Apple Support
  3. View the Results: If all shows up as an AirPod, then you are fine. If not, then these are fake, and that is likely why you are getting the issue of connectivity.

C. A Glitch in Apple's Device Database?

I would contact Apple Support, asking them if there is a glitch in their user database. You should not be getting this message, if they have already been repaired. If these are used, then that may be why this is occurring.

Apple Contact Info:

  • Contact Us - Choose Locations
  • Proceed from there, as necessary
  • Why the Wait: Phone calls are taking a bit to go through at the moment, due to lots of calls. With the Coronavirus Pandemic, many are at home at the moment, with much time on their hands to contact Apple. So, just stay on the line, and you will get through :)

Mismatch Occurred:

It's a mismatch that had no workaround. That's nothing on you. Apple knows that, and that's a reason why they would have replaced it. Sometimes replacements cause mismatches, and its reported plenty of times on these forums. So, you're all set from here.
