USB to Thunderbolt

For 12 years I’ve backed up my MacBook Pro model with a hard drive with a USB (not USB-c) cable. Today my new MacBook Air arrived, and has only Thunderbolt inputs. I can’t seem to find an adapter from the original USB to Thunderbolt so that I can migrate my files to the new computer. Help!

A USB-C adapter will work for that, and is cheaper than ThunderBolt in the Apple Online Store:
