Does Apple purposely reduce camera Performance by IOS updates?

Me and my friend bought iPhone 14 pro max on same day. After some days my friend updated his phone from 16.5 to IOS 17 but i did not and remained in previous IOS 16.5 Before updating we compared our phones camera where we did not see any difference. But after his update we compared it again and found something strange which is camera performance degraded in his iPhone, which one he updated to IOS 17.

My iPhone camera remained rich in color and sharp like it was before but his iPhone seen a degrade.

*Does Apple purposely reduce the performance of old iPhones by software update to sell new iPhones ?
