iPadOS 17 removed the ability to select text using Pencil in PDFs in the Files app

Prior to iPadOS 17 I was happily using my Pencil in the Files app to select text in PDFs and then highlight it. You just had to:

1) Enter Markup mode (clicking on the Markup icon)

2) Choose the Select tool

3) Exit Markup mode.

After that, you could select text using the Pencil and then use the popup to highlight it.

iPadOS 17 has for some inexplicable reason removed this ability. It was one of the main uses I had for the iPad. Now, the only way to highlight text in PDFs in the Files app is to use your finger.... (?!?!)

What is the point of having a sophisticated stylus device that can't now even do the most basic functionality such as selecting text? I really don't understand....
