Adding spouse as Co-Owner on Apple Card

If my phone is old (6S) and cannot update past iOS 12.5.7, does that mean I cannot add another person as a co-owner on my Apple Card?

I’m going to link an Apple Support article below on how co-owners and participants work and restrictions, processes etc.

You need to send an invitation to your spouse. You can’t just elect/say someone is a co-owner. Let’s assume you both have updated devices and OS versions that will work. Your spouse will receive an invitation from you to be a co-owner. If the accept, Goldman Sachs will run a credit check on the person and if they financially qualify, your individual Apple Card account will become a joint account. A joint account, once created, can never be converted back to an individual account. Federal banking regulations.

Once your spouse accepts (assuming they are financially qualified) they may request a physical Apple Card. If a card is not requested by your spouse, they’ll have access to the account through the virtual card in the Apple Wallet on their iPhone and use Apple Pay to make purchases online, in stores that accept Apple Pay etc.

Please review the support article I’ve linked below.

You can add a co-owner from an iPad:

On your iPad, open the Settings app > Wallet & Apple Pay > Apple Card > Info tab. Then follow these steps:

  1. Under People, tap Share My Card, then tap Continue.
  2. Select a member of your Family Sharing group. To invite someone to join your Family Sharing group, tap Invite Someone.
  3. To invite an account co-owner, tap Become Co-Owners. To invite a participant, tap Add as Participant.
  4. Follow the instructions on your screen to provide the requested information.
  5. Tap Send Invitation, then authenticate with your passcode.

On my iPad (2017 iPad Pro 10.5-inch Model A1701), when I follow the Apple instructions in your link, I find that there is no "More" button, nor any provision for adding someone as an account co-owner, only as a participant.

Invite an Apple Card Family participant or account co-owner

  1. Open the Wallet app and tap your Apple Card.
  2. Tap the More button , then tap Card Details .

Phil and Jeff,

Thank you for your replies. Unfortunately your instructions do not match the actual choices displayed on my iPad screen. For example, under the Info tab there is no People choice. There is a Apple Card Family > +Add User, but then there is no option to add a Co-owner, only a Participant.

I think I'll just put this aside for now. Life is too short.
