locked out with passcode failure .. am told to load latest version of iTunes on the phone .. the phone is in lockdown mode ... What do I do?

I am on the 8 hour "wait" for passcode failures. When I open iTunes, it's saying it can't "recover" the iphone without the latest version of iTunes being on the phone, I can't open the phone to install it. What do i Do?

There is no need for any software to be loaded onto the target. phone, because you are going to erase it then do the initial setup process again. Any software needed will be on your computer.
