Updating Apple watch 5 to watchOS 10 while paired to IPhone X.

Apparently my IPhone X cannot be updated to iOS 17. It seems I cannot update my Apple watch 5 to watch OS 10 since my iPhone is not updated to the latest iOS. Is this right?

Yes; if you update it from somewhere else, you won't be able to pair it with an iPhone X afterwards.
