The problem might be the different radio frequencies used in North American or Rest of World networks. So far the compatibility has not really been tested with the new phones.
There is also a minor issue that only our EE network is listed as supporting eSIM, so options might be rather limited. It might be accepted as a roaming visitor, but I have some concerns whether they could setup onto a UK based plan and accounting.

The USA versions have a different model number (and USA versions are eSIM only).

You can also see the regional compatibility for the different model numbers

It is likely a USA sourced iPhone will work as a roaming phone on UK networks using a USA airtime plan and account but there is no information whether the UK networks would be able to activate the eSIM if you wanted to set it up on a UK plan and accounting. It looks like only the EE network supports eSIM in UK.

My advice is to contact the EE network and ask the questions direct to the likely service provider.

If you will be spending most of your time in the UK, a better plan would be to buy the phone in the UK.
You need to check with O2 first and see if they do an eSIM as American phones do take sims.
I just bought an iPhone 15 Pro in Oregon, USA, unlocked from the Apple Store and brought it back to England. Went into the O2 store who moved my eSIM from my British iPhone 13 Pro over with no issue. All fine. I don’t know about the warranty though, hopefully won’t have to find out
Hey there,
I'm planning to do the same thing, did you do it and if so how did you get on? I'm on O2 using an eSIM in my 13 Pro at the moment and haven't had issues, but don't want to buy a US 15 Pro and find it doesn't work for some reason...anyone's thoughts on this are really welcome!
Hi,
So, is your US phone working in the UK?
I'm planning to buy the 15 pro Max in US and use it in the UK.
Your reply would be really helpful.
Will my iphone15 bought in NY work the same in the UK. And does my warranty work as well
The phone will work in the U.K. if your carrier supports eSIM.
If you buy a phone in the U.S., it will have no warranty in the U.K.
