New IPhone 15 not recognizing car or the other way around.

I just got an iPhone 15 , I upgraded from a IPhone XR. I used my old phone to play music threw usb cable in my car . My car does not have CarPlay. And it baffles me that a new phone can’t do what a 5 year old or more phone did. Contacted Apple and their answer was get a usb c to 3.5 adapter. 🤦

I used the adapter above and it did charge but would not play audio. This is very frustrating, I've tried several adapters from amazon and apple. What a racket!

Not all USB A to C cables will pass data correctly; in fact most will only work to charge a device.

I personally have five and four will only charge a device.

Try one from a reputable brand such as Belkin, or any that is MFi certified.

It sounds silly, but I've run into the same issue connecting Android devices to cars and computers; the fact that the connectors fit doesn't mean they will properly transfer data.

You could also use your old USB-A to Lightning cable with the new Apple USB-C to Lightning adapter:

Brand name doesn't matter here, unfortunately. It might be worthwhile to contact Anker and let them know what cable you purchased. They should be able to tell you if it can transfer data or just provides power for charging.

As an example, this cable by Anker, on amazon, does list that it supports data transfer: click here

"Supports File Transfer

Transfer data to and from all your USB-C devices at speeds of up to 480 Mbps."

I would expect that cable to work in a car. There is also the chance of your car not supporting the newer phone, which would be a question for the manufacturer of the car.
