Hello, I’m trading in my Apple Watch 7 for the 9, do I also need to send the watch band back?

No, according to How to prepare your iPhone, Apple Watch, or Android for Trade In:

"Remove the band from your Apple Watch. If it is included in the box, it will be recycled and cannot be returned to you."
