US iPhone 15 Pro max eSim restrictions for other countries

I am currently studying in the United States from South Africa, and I want to get a new iPhone 15 pro max. Will I be able to to use this iPhone 15 pro max in South Africa although I would have bought it here in the US and it has a US eSim?

You can surely use them in South Africa if bought from the USA.

In South Africa MTN & Vodacom provide eSIM for you.

IMPORTANT RESTRICTION FOR iPHONE, iPAD, APPLE TV AND HOMEPOD SERVICE.

Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and HomePod to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device.

An eSIM’d iPhone will work anywhere a nanoSIM’d phone will work, and will internationally “roam” according to it’s provisioned service plan.

This is no different from a nanoSIM.

THE question to be asked is, “Can your local carrier in South Africa provision an eSIM ???”

This is key because a U.S. market iPhone 14/15 can’t accept nanoSIMs.

Apple maintains this list for quick reference - it lists two SA carriers - but it’s neither “authoritative” nor “all inclusive.”

I doubt you will be able to do that since financed iPhones are mostly locked versions. Locked iPhones are designed for only one network provider that the phone is locked under. Hence, you cannot mix nextwork providers on locked versions.

You will not be able to use your SA eSim on a locked version iPhone that is under finance. Rather opt to buy an iPhone cash that is unlocked, that way you can use any eSim anywhere around the world.

So my husband is an American citizen and wants to buy an IPhone 15 plus on finance (monthly instalment plans) for myself who is currently still residing in South Africa.

from my understanding, there are 3 providers; AT&T, TMobile & Verizon. My question is, that if I (when he’s coming to visit & bringing the phone for me) will be able to add a South African “eSIM” without the US finance plan be in “jeopardy” because of this?

thank you in advance.
