I have a question regarding content that was stored copied via Time Machine

Before changing computers (from a Macbook pro to another Macbook pro), I copied the content of the former Macbook pro with Time Machine. I did not try to reinstall the new Macbook pro with the copied previous version through Time Machine. However I wanted to copy over selected files found in my user folder. I can get to this folder, however it is empty. Why is this and is there anything that can be done to get the content that was in that folder?

Time machine creates a complex data base of saved files. you should not expect to use finder on that database for any reason.

if you want to restore a file, that is done through Time Machine .app (not to be confused with time machine control panel. Its display looks like this older one:
