I lost one of my Airpod Pro’s so I bought a replacement. At the Apple Store I was told to forget device and then charge the Airpods for an hour and then resync. When I try to resync it keeps saying ‘Mismatched Airpods”

I lost on my right Airpod Pro. I went to the Apple Store and bought a replacement and was instructed to forget my Airpods and then go home and charge the case and pods for an hour and then they should be synced and i just have to reset up but when i try to reset i keep getting hit with a “Mismatched

AirPods Pro

The AirPods in the charging case do not belong to you and do not work together.”

I don’t know what to do. The Apple Store is swamped right now- 3 hour wait which i can’t do currently and won’t be able to do for at least a week.

For anyone who may have the same issue - i eventually took the airpods to apple and they determined that the airpods were on different firmware updates and there was no way to ever pair them. they ended up just fully replacing both airpods and charging case

Hey aar0npatr1ck,

We'd first recommend checking for and installing any updates that may be available for your iPhone, as that may help to resolve the issue: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If the issue still occurs after updating, we'd suggest trying the steps here: Set up your replacement AirPods or charging case - Apple Support

"Set up your AirPods or charging case

  1. On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > Bluetooth and tap the Information button  next to your AirPods.
  2. Tap Forget This Device.
  3. Tap Forget Device, and tap again to confirm.
  4. Put both AirPods in your charging case.
  5. Open the lid and check the status light. It should flash amber.
  6. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for a few seconds. The status light should flash white.*
  7. Go to the Home Screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
  8. Open the case—with your AirPods inside—and hold it next to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. A setup animation appears on your screen.
  9. Tap Connect, then tap Done.

* If the status light still flashes amber, connect the case to power, close the lid, and wait 20 minutes. Then open the lid and press and hold the setup button again for a few seconds until the status light flashes white."

Thanks!
