Do your part: Let Apple know what is going on here. Provide them with feedback on this. They may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they received on this, the more they will know what is going on, and what needs to be fixed in updates to come.

2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
3. Comment: that this all began after installing and update, and how you have troubleshot it this far. Include the URL of this thread.
4. Proceed from there as necessary

One fix for disappearing Wi-Fi and cellular icons is to toggle airplane mode on and off. It will work normally.

Do your Part: These are just user-to-user forms. Apple barely reads the forums as it is on their own time and will. Apple will know nothing of this concern, if you do not spread the word to them. So, report it to Apple. They wont get back to you directly, but the more they hear about this, the more likely they will look into, knowing what is going on. They will know knowing of this fix, if you don't report it to them.

I was mad about this too, but it turns out it's just a glitch. If you power-cycle the phone it goes back to normal.
