Unlocking " Privacy & Security " when password is forgotten

If you originally set up your Mac with the first user account, your account should have admin permissions. Your regular login password should be able to unlock the Privacy and Security section in Settings.

If you know your login password but it can't unlock System Settings or System Preferences, please let us know.

OP is asking about a Mac, not iPhone. Fortunately there is a way to reset a Mac's login password without erasing it in most circumstances.
