Connect Mac mini m2 to Imac late 2012, through thunderbolt cable and hdmi to make iMac as an external display

Hi there, I recently bought a Mac mini m2 from apple. I was spring cleaning my house and found a late 2012 iMac sitting around collecting dust. It is working and is running high Sierra, I wanted to just sell of the Mac but I found that I could maybe try to use the iMac as a secondary display for my Mac mini. I also have some adaptors and cables. I have a mini display port to vga connector adaptor, then a vga cable, then a vga port connector to hdmi adaptor to connect to the Mac mini, there are many websites but they don't explain it clearly, I wanted to know if this is possible, thank you very much
