Videos in Google Slides on iPad and AppleTV

I am using the Google Slides app (v 1.2023.20201) on my iPad (iPadOS 16.6) and presenting the slideshows via screen mirroring to an AppleTV.

In the past (3 months ago) videos would play from within the slideshow, now those same videos open in a window external to my slides.

For example, a slide might have a set of instructions and a video sourced from youtube that is a timer. The problem is that these videos now open a window that is not part of the slideshow, so the slide content can not be seen at the same time as the video.

The video preview images have also disappeared from the slides. I still see the videos listed in the navigation pane, but the links are not active.

This is true for slideshows that worked last school year and it is true for recently created slideshows.

Suggestions for returning these videos to the slideshows?
