iCloud Photos (syncing and unsyncing photos)

About 1 month ago, I had 4000 photos in my hidden section of my iphone photos. My strict parent had wanted to see my phone. Therefore, I wanted the hidden photos off my phone but still on iCloud so I could access them later.  So I preceded to turn backup and sync photos for iCloud off. Afterwards I went into my hidden section and deleted the 4000 pictures of my phone photos app. Some photos were removed off my phone (ones that I didn’t delete while sync was turned off) when I turned sync off as well. When I log into iCloud.com all of my photos are still there (including the photos in hidden that I deleted while sync photos was turned off). I tried to retrive my photos but the zipping file tool for pictures is trash and makes the photos lower quality. I was wondering how I could get ALL my iCloud Photos back on my current iPhone. I was told all I had to do was turn sync photos back on and they will start appearing as normal but I’m worried that if I turn sync photos back on then the hidden 4000 photos I deleted on my iPhone while sync photos was off will be deleted from iCloud forever. I also want to not i have 200 storage and all my photos are still in iCloud (including the hidden ones I deleted off my iPhone while my photos sync was turned off). Can I get some feedback from professionals on how to get all my iCloud Photos back on my iPhone?

"If you had to guess how long would you say it would take for 6,500 ish photos/videos would take to load onto the photos app after turning on sync? I will be using home Wi-Fi, updated iPhone and fully charged. Also where and how in settings do I do this?"

Time for 6,500 Photos:

Well, what is the Data Transfer Rate you are paying for? If 1GB/Second, then with 26GB would be 26 seconds. But that sounds absurd for rural locations. You need to have the services for all of this. But, normal photos are in the KBs (one-thousandth of a GB). So, let it sync overnight. This is not only about internal LAN speed, but also internal device storage, aswell. So, if you do not have enough internal storage on your iPhone, then all transfer would stop, and you'd have to clear space. I recommend keeping atlas 20GB of free space from, when it comes to an iPhone.

Some personal reference on clearing internal iPhone storage...

Troubleshooting iPhone Storage:

Internal storage cannot be upgraded. It is what it is. So, the maximum internal storage capacity never increases, even if you upgraded your iCloud plan. Learn More here: What's the Difference Between Device Storage and iCloud Storage? Apple Support

About Transfer of Data:

I. iCloud Storage Plan:

Q1. "I have a 200GB plan that I pay for monthly. I just logged into my iCloud and it says I have 106.8GB storage free on my iCloud storage. I also haven’t taken a lot of new photos (expect maybe 50-70 photos) since I turned sync off. Should I be fine?"

A2. You will be fine, as long as you have enough space --keep 20GB of free internal storage, and never eat it up in-full. As for these new photos, they will not sync through iCloud. They'd already by on the iPhone. Once all syncing is enabled, all will be accessed.

II. Deletion of Original Source:

Q2. "Also where in settings do I go to turn sync photos back on and have my photos load back?"

A2. Nothing will be deleted. Everything will stay in its current location. So, there is presumably no need to have to get your photos back ( all because its a matter of copy&paste --not cut&paste).

Hope these are all helpful in this circumstance...

Obtaining, and then Transferring iCloud Photos:

Two Steps...

1. Download All of iCloud First:

If you wanted to, you could download all of iCloud, and then trash what is in there. Perform my User Tip: Getting a Quick and Direct "iCloud Drive-to-External Hard Drive" Download - User Tip. All would be saved, and would then be removed —photos and all. You would then use the Search Bar located in the top-right corner of a Finder window to browse thorough all of iCloud and locate these photos.

Then...

2. Perform the Transfer

"will turning on sync photos on my iPhone again load all my photos? I was told to do that but if I do that will the 4000 photos I deleted on my iPhone while sync photos was turned off be deleted permanently or will they load back on my phone (the 4000 photos are still in my iCloud photos library). That’s basically what I’m worried about."

Transfer the Photos:

No. Nothing will be deleted. When it comes to this syncing of the photos, it is a matter of copy & paste --not cut & paste.

"iCloud Photos (syncing and unsyncing photos): So even though I deleted those 4000 photos from my photos app while my photos sync was turned off? My 4000 photos will load back into my photo app once I turn on my photos sync for iCloud? will they just load back into my photos app? If so how long does it take? Where in settings should I go to fix this (turn sync back on)"

Data Transfer Rate:

Sinking will take time --it all depends on your Data Transfer Rate. A photo can be up to 4MB in size. So, 4,000 of those is 80GB, if you will. So, if you have a fast router, then it ought to be just fine. Use the same network. Note that if you are performing this on a public LAN (i.e. campground or hotel), then you may be just kicked off, if you are using up too many packets of data. So, perform this at home, for the best results.
