Backing up to external drive not icloud.

I have a 2 TB external drive as well as 2TB Apple Airport router. I need to know how to back up to those drives, rather than pay Apple $3.00 a month. If anyone can help I sure would appreciate it. Mark

"Backing up to external drive not iCloud.: Is there a way that I can back up my phone to my personal 2 TB external drive without taking it to a computer and back-and-forth. I would like to just be able to back up my iPad and my iPhone to that external drive. Thank you very much Mark.

You are welcome.

Backing Up an iPhone Using a Hardwired Hard Drive-to-iPhone Connection:

No. What you are looking to perform is not an option. Your only option is to connect a hard river to your Mac, and choose that hard drive as the backup-to location. If it doesn’t show up, then you’d likely have to mount it using Disk Utility. One mounted, choose the drive as the Backup-To location. Find out how to assign the connect-driver as the Backup-Bo location here: Locate Backups of your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
