Delete Whatsapp backup from iCloud

Hi I want to delete the iCloud backup of my whatsapp chat history ONLY, but not the actual whatsapp application data that is stored on my mobile.

I’ve noticed when i follow these steps after disabling backup from whatsapp it says

Steps: Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Manage Storage > WhatsApp Messenger > Delete Data

“This will delete all data for this app stored on this iPhone and in iCloud. This action can take some time...”

However i have seen a tutorial when for others it says it will only delete the iCloud backup

Why is it different? Ill share the screenshot from my phone and a tutorial:

If someone can help with this, it would be so great!

Is there something else enabled which is causing the delete action on my phone to delete it from phone and icloud?

FIXED!!!

I opened iCloud on my iPad and deleted iCloud Whatsapp file via my iPad! It was looking good already before proceeding as on my iPad WhatsApp file size was shown, while no size was shown on the iPhone.

Therefore, as suggested by WhatsApp team, it is definitely an iOS issue.

iOS is not able to deal with WhatsApp backup on iCloud, therefore the operation has to be done via other devices or via the Mac. Just for everybody info, my iOS 17.2.1. Hopefully Apple team will be able to fix this in the future, also because WhatsApp is used by many Apple users.

Actually, the same issue happen, and it is even worse, by selecting WhatsApp ON among App data do be back-up on the iPhone backup, as this file is increasing iCloud iPhone backup even if data is deleted on WhatsApp App.

I contacted WhatsApp team more than a year ago and also regarding this they explained that it was probably an iOS issue.

Thanks @timonk for the great suggestion!

The step does not delete data. It does not even show any message why the data is not deleted. Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Account Storage > scroll to and tap WhatsApp Messenger > Delete Data THIS DOES NOT WORK.

I just tested it in ios17.4.1

It successfully deletes the Whatsapp backup from iCloud storage space.

No need to employ any other devices.

It dies take a few moments to register if you come out then go back into the Manage storage screen.

Hey EP3Boy,

Here's an article from WhatsApp support that explains how to turn off iCloud backup: How to turn off WhatsApp in your device backup. This will stop the WhatsApp chats from backing up in the future.

Prior to going through any steps, we recommend backing up your device. For steps, review this article: Back up iPhone.

To delete the WhatsApp data from Cloud, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Account Storage > scroll to and tap WhatsApp Messenger > Delete Data. Keep in mind, this process will completely delete the WhatsApp iCloud data.

Take care.

Yes that is on the way also but the reported issue is primarily with iOS, as I need to free iOS space and that shortcut does not work anymore. By selecting "Delete" WhatsApp data on iCloud menu, nothing happens, and this is iOS related, not inside WhatsApp app. WhatsApp support didn't help previously with iOS and WhatsApp related issue, that is why I am posting also here.

Thank you.
