My iPad was fine then went to black screen then black screen with Apple logo and keeps doing that on its own.

It sounds like your iPhone is waking and locking back. To address this, force restart iPhone to refresh the running processes. Disconnect any cable or accessories you have connected and then restart it.

Force restart iPhone

If iPhone isn’t responding, and you can’t turn it off then on, try forcing it to restart.

1. Press and quickly release the volume up button.

2. Press and quickly release the volume down button.

3. Press and hold the side button.

4. When the Apple logo appears, release the side button.

Brand new replacement iPad Pro doing the same thing on me after only three months following one of the iOS updates.

It suddenly crashed while I was browsing on Safari & has been stuck on the dreaded frozen black screen of death ever since. It is not responding to any of the usual trouble shooting including forced restart, using finder on my MacBook etc etc. A sim backlight comes on when I press the home button. Apple won’t help as apparently I was ‘10 days passed the 3 month warranty for a replacement device’, which to me is unacceptable, given it is technically a new device they provided me with & on very little research online I have discovered this is an issue affecting a significant number of people & not just confined to the iPad Pro.

This was featured in The Irish Times two weeks after I first encountered the issue with a reader who wrote in about the same issue with a replacement Apple Watch that had developed the same frozen & unresponsive black screen.
