My MacBook and keyboard froze. Can’t shut it down. What should I do?

Press and hold the power button until the screen goes totally black ... about 10 seconds.

I have to force shut the laptop & restart it. The keyboard backlight also shuts off. It's a very weird problem and I cant seem to find any solution to it.
