Wireless keyboard drain

I have a three battery Apple wireless keyboard. Previously I used it with a 2014 Mac mini. The batteries would last a long time. When I recently upgraded to the M2 Mac mini, the battery drain barely took me through a week of usage. Any solutions?

Thank you for your response. I've tried all sorts of batteries with the same poor results. As I stated in my first e-mail, this and other wireless keyboards had very long lives, over three months, when I was using the 2014 Mac mini. I never even turned the keyboard off. It's only now that using the same keyboard, I lose all power in the keyboard within a week on my new M2 Mac mini.

Hello Upstage111,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

Hav you tested with another pair of batteries to determine this wasn't a faulty set of batteries:

"Change the batteries in a wireless aluminum keyboard

  1. Use a coin to loosen and remove the battery compartment cover, located on the side of the keyboard, then remove the old batteries. The keyboard battery compartment with the cover removed.
  2. Insert the AA batteries into the battery compartment, making sure the positive and negative ends are pointing in the correct direction.Batteries being inserted into the battery compartment of a keyboard.
  3. Replace the battery compartment cover.
  4. Turn on the keyboard when you’re ready to use it.

Change the batteries in a wireless white keyboard

  1. Remove the battery compartment cover (located on the bottom side of the keyboard), then remove the old batteries.
  2. Insert the AA batteries into the battery compartment, making sure the positive and negative ends are pointing in the correct direction.
  3. Replace the battery compartment cover.
  4. Turn on the keyboard when you’re ready to use it."

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? Have you tested with another brand of batteries? Also, do you turn the keyboard off when not in use?

Cheers!
