Exiting list view in ios Contacts

there appears to be no way of exiting list view in contacts on the iPhone/iOS. This question is never been answered directly. Is there some sort of hidden switch or option? The only way I have managed to get out of list mode/view is to close contacts by swiping up from the middle and dismissing the app and then ask Siri for particular contact which then opens contacts on a particular contact card. If I just try to re-open contacts, it goes back into the list view mode. This is obviously not what was intended by the designers. if there is some hidden swipe or other hidden switch, this violates the basic human-machine interface principle that Apple pioneered that all user actions should be visible and obvious on the screen.

One can get out of this list mode by choosing some list and going to a particular contact and then searching for another contact. This works, but it violates the intuition that one should always be able to go back to a previous screen or mode. it also violates the user expectation that there is a home mode in the app. A simple solution would be to have a back button or a home button that will be visible in list mode.

The Home mode is All Contacts. If you tap All Contacts once, it will always open to All Contacts, and you will see <lists in the upper left corner, which is a new feature in iOS 16 that allows you to manage lists, something that you could not do without a 3rd party app in previous versions of iOS. You don’t have to choose a contact, then search to see All Contacts; they will always be there.
