Back up entire iPad 10th gen to USB C flash drive

Will an iPad 10th generation backup to a USB flash memory drive? I do this with my MacBook using time TimeMachine. Can I do something similar with iPad 10? I only see iPad backup instructions for backup to iCloud, MacIntosh, or a PC. What about backing up to a flash drive only, no iTunes involved, just save the iPad's entire contents to a device called a flash drive, thumb drive, USB stick etc. Or, is iTunes the key to a flash drive back up?

If the iPad is lost or destroyed I want to be able to get a new one, put to it a USB flash drive with the lost iPad's contents, and restore all my apps and data to the new iPad. Is this possible?

It works beautifully until you accidentally erase something on the cloud and then it's lost forever. A flash drive would be terrific.

This support page outlines the natively supported backup methods for iPad and iPhone:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Native iOS/iPadOS backup and restore processes are dependent upon iCloud, or connection to either Windows PC (with iTunes for Windows installed) or a Mac (with iTunes or Finder - as appropriate for the installed version of macOS).

Natively supported methods offer full system backup - consisting of data and device settings.

You should note that Apps themselves are not included within iCloud or iTunes backups. Instead, a record of installed Apps - and all associated App data are included within the backup. When restored, Apps that are both still available and compatible with the target device are automatically reinstalled from the Apple App Store.

It is possible to use a third-party App to backup data (but not device settings or installed Apps) to a variety of external storage options - including third-party Cloud services, external media devices and network storage. One App that comes readily to mind is FileBrowser Professional by Stratospherix:

You would be well advised to review the extensive online Manual and help files to determine suitability for your needs.

There is a learning curve, but it works.

Thank you for the reply. I understand that my iPad apps can be restored from the App Store and the OS from the internet using my Apple account. My goal then would be to at least back up my personal files to a USB drive, no service or app involved, if possible. This can be done with very simply with PCs, by choosing where to save a file. If it can be done with an iPad, I have yet to find how.
